Competitive Program

EKGA is proud to offer a successful Competitive program for those gymnasts who show the desire and talent to compete. Our goal is for each of our athletes to reach their highest potential in gymnastics in a safe and positive environment.  The Competitive stream caters for gymnasts with the desire and ability to excel in Competitive Gymnastics.

We offer two competitive programs at EKGA.  Gymnasts may be offered a position in our Gymstar program or Australian Levels Program (ALP).   The ALP and Gymstar programs both offer a wonderful opportunity to train and compete. One program is not inherently better than the other—they both offer different advantages and disadvantages. As such, each child may find benefits competing in each program at different times during their gymnastics career.

The coaching staff will determine what best meets the needs of each child on an individual basis.  Our Competitive Department Leader conducts regular evaluations to determine the best team placement for those gymnasts that have been identified as having the potential to be placed in our competitive program.

Gymstar Program

The Gymstar Program is an alternative to the Gymnastics Australia ALP competitive program offering individual flexibility to coaches and gymnasts. The goal of Gymstar is to provide gymnasts of varying abilities and time commitments the opportunity for a rewarding Competitive gymnastics experience.  These gymnasts compete in local and Regional competitions.

Australian  Levels Program

The Australian Levels program gives Gymnasts the opportunity to compete at local, Regional, State and National Competitions. Places in this program are extremely limited, and positions are only offered to the most talented gymnasts in the club.

For this competitive stream Gymnasts are selected and evaluated on:

  • Physical Ability (raw strength, flexibility, power, amplitude and body tension)

  • Ability to apply feedback and corrections

  • Determination / motivation

  • Body shaping/posture

  • Resilience

  • Attitude towards teammates

  • Potential to continue to improve

Positions in these programs are by selection/audition only.
